How to get along with people at your workplace.


See if you can catch yourself complaining, in either speech or thought, about a situation at work, people's attitude, work environment, boss, team members, lack of growth opportunities, clients unresponsiveness. By nature, we expect our professional life and people around us just to be the way we want them to be. When it is not, it frustrates us, and we carry this frustration around day to day. This is a leading cause of conflicts at workplace with team, management and clients.

In fact, the people around you at your workplace are amazing. There is nothing wrong with them. They are simply being who they are. Your being angry, frustrated or stressed about it is only changing your being into something you are not. To build a strong rapport with people, you must follow the principle of acceptance.

Professional life is too short to choose frustration over acceptance. People come to work with their own maps, and their maps are based on their experience, beliefs, culture, country, education, and so many other factors which you and I may not be aware of.

Non-acceptance of people and events at work comes because of our own resistance to our present work environment? Observe your teams and yourself. Have you noticed a pattern where some people would always rather be somewhere else? If you find your current situation and people at work intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options-

  • Remove yourself from the situation,

  • Change it, or

  • Accept it totally.

Then accept the consequences of your choice. No excuses. No negativity. No emotional pollution.
