HOW CAN ONE LEAD WITHOUT A TITLE

How can one lead without a title?

Well, can you really lead without a title? Absolutely. It takes just as much work as leading with a title. At the beginning of my career, I was hired in the marketing department in a small startup firm, and I was failing miserably at the job because I did not know anything about marketing. I had done my post-graduation in human resources.

I started demonstrating my skills in human resources and began leading the way without any title. I did everything that it would take to create an HR department in that organization. Soon after one year, the management liked my work and I became the HR manager. That's when the title came in. A title doesn't define a leader. Work ethic and character does hard work.

Anyone can be called a leader, but a true leader leads from insight, leads from the mind. In the corporate world, we all crave for job titles and when. And then we get buried under and blinded by our job titles and job descriptions, making us feel trapped and boxed in, in, you know, by a limited mindset, a limited set of expectations, uncertain about how to unleash our full potential.

Leading without authority. Working without an official title is one of the most important skills to master as a leader. And I encourage you today to lead from the mind regardless of your title and position.
