Question:- How to Deal with Corporate Politics?
Payal’s response:
We all face negativity and politics at every stage in whatever we do. But patience and resilience play a key role when you face corporate politics. Cut out the negativity around you and live in an environment of positivity.
There is a story of a donkey owned by a farmer, and the donkey fell down into the well. This donkey was crying miserably for hours and the farmer was trying to figure out what to do. Finally, the farmer thought that the donkey is very old and it was really not worth saving the donkey so he invited all his neighbors to come over and help him just cover the well. They all grabbed this equipment and began to throw the dirt into the well. When the donkey realized what was happening, he really cried horribly. To everyone’s amazement, the donkey calmed down. A few minutes later, they saw that what this donkey was doing was that every time they would throw dirt that would hit his back, the donkey was doing something unusual. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer and neighbors continued to throw dirt, he would shake it off and take a step up, and very soon, to everyone’s amazement, the donkey stepped over the edge of the well.
In your work life, there will be plenty of people who will throw dirt on you, and all kinds of trash, either through their actions, their words, or behavior and their aim is to disturb you. If you allow their word and action to speak to you, you are going to feel bad, there is going to be a pain inside of you and you are going to start reacting and that’s when you are getting off from your goal track and you are going to go on a downward spiral which is exactly what they want. They want you out of their way, they want you to be distracted.
The trick to achieving success when you are surrounded by corporate politics and negativity is to shake it off and take a step up. You have to remain neutral during praise and criticism.
Don’t allow anything to speak to you and by doing so, you are giving yourself permission to focus completely on your deep-end purpose and your next action. Be well aware of what’s happening around you and use that to up your game.
Shake it off and take a STEP UP!!
