The Power of Teamwork: Completing, Not Competing
As a board member for several nonprofits, one of my primary goals is to foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork. I constantly encourage people to come together, sit around a table, brainstorm, and engage in creative thinking. This collaborative approach is essential for any organization looking to achieve new heights.
The truth is, no one person can do it all or have all the answers. Over my 21 years of teaching leadership, I've learned that we all have our unique strengths and weaknesses. That’s why having a team is so vital—they help fill in the gaps and provide support where we need it most.
This is the essence of teamwork. It’s not about competing against each other to see who can do better; it’s about completing each other to ensure the team’s overall success. When team members focus on complementing each other’s skills, the entire group thrives.
Take a moment to reflect on your own team. Are you all working together to complete one another, or is there a sense of competition? True success comes when we move from a mindset of competing to one of completing. When that happens, everyone wins.
