Well, this word reminds me of Buddha. You know he said we should be without desires; it's the cause of all suffering. However, in the business world today, without desire, there is no existence either. And why do I say that? Well, most people have the desire to do something great in their lives, and I so admire this because I believe we all are created to be successful. Desire is one thing that will get you out of bed each day and will help you grow because you are going to work towards it. The moment you and I want something bad enough, we will work towards this existence. So, desire is good.
Here is a word of caution: don't let the wrong desire cause you to struggle. In fact, while coaching people, I often check on the intensity of their desire. You know, it just gives me a clear picture of where they are and where they will reach in their career. Desire is a thermometer of a leader, and that’s when you see how passionate they are, how desirous they are to achieve today, and just get out there into the world.
I want you to remember that no matter what, you will never achieve all that you desire. There will always be something missing from our lives, and so the search for what we want continues. That’s the beauty of desire: because we never get all of them, it always leaves scope for improvement in our opportunities.
